About Rachel head

OWNER OF GET AHEAD SWIM LESSONS

Rachel has had a passion for aquatics since before she can remember! She began swimming competitively at age four and didn’t stop until she was the captain of the Hume-Fogg Academic High School’s swim team.

Her first job at age 16 was lifeguard and swim instructor at the YMCA where she originally discovered an interest and talent in adult swim instruction.

Rachel has a degree in Health Sciences with a minor in Psychology from Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. She formalized Get Ahead in 2022 by forming her LLC and has been swimming right along since then.

Her love of swim instruction shows in each lesson she teaches, and she’s thrilled to share the gift of aquatic literacy and water safety with her clients.

About Rachel’s teaching style

Water safety and positivity are major focuses during lessons. For young learners, Rachel’s teaching style is play-based with a goal of creating positive experiences and memories in the water. There are lots of games, drills, toys, and challenges used to motivate students and help them feel comfortable and excited.

While the majority of Get Ahead swim students are under the age of 18, Rachel specializes in teaching adults. She has swam alongside countless adults who became confident, competent and comfortable in the water after one-on-one lessons.

For adult lessons, Rachel partners with the student to discuss technicalities of different strokes and maneuvers and shows lots of demonstrations. She then offers physical and technical support while students practice the skills until they are ready and able to do so independently.

Overall, Rachel’s instructional approach is gentle and fun but also challenges students to excel and progress quickly and effectively.
